Struck On A Planchet Fragment

PART V. Planchet Errors:

Irregular Planchets:

Struck on a Fragment:

Normal Alloy / Composition

Definition: A coin design that has been struck on a fragment composed of the same material as a normal representative of that issue.  The fragment can be derived from strip (punched or unpunched), a blank, a planchet, or possibly another source.  The fragment must enter the striking chamber as a fragment to qualify.

This clad fragment was struck with 1976 Kennedy half dollar dies.  The chaotic mix of copper-colored and nickel-colored areas makes it unlikely that this was derived from normal strip or a normal planchet.
