Ovoid Cud

PART IV. Die Errors:

Cuds:

Ovoid Cud

Definition: An ovoid cud is a die break that incorporates part of the rim and a portion of the die’s interior. Its shape will be in the form of an arc from one part of the rim to another part of the rim.

This die break (cud) shows the typical ovoid shape. This die break is on a dateless (1984?) Lincoln cent. Since this die break is fairly large, a deficiency of metal occurred on the reverse of the planchet in the area where the word AMERICA is normally seen.
