Irregular Straight Clips:

Definition: A blank or planchet that has been punched from the end of the of the strip. Though most clips from this position are completely straight, some have irregularities and are not completely straight.

The 1973-D Jefferson nickel presumably had its planchet punched from the end of the strip. The irregular rim indicates that it made its way through the upset mill after being through theriddler. While the edge is slightly curved, it would not fit the description of a curved clip.
